Done Kokoda and need a bigger challenge?
Try the Ghost (aka Kappa Kappa) Trail. Walked in WWII by the Americans South to North and also used by Australians as an escape route from behind Japanese lines off Kokoda from North to South.
Wokabaut PNG in conjunction with the land owners plan to host three trips this year, early May, early June and early July. On two occasions rising to over 3000 metres this is no walk for the light hearted. Described as the Kokoda Trail on steroids this walk entails 7 days of medium to hard walking.
Each trek is planned from Sunday to the following Sunday giving a rest day if required and a chance to view PNG's national emblem in full flight, Paradisae Raggiana at Jaure Village. These birds roost in many trees around Jaure, probably one of the prettiest villages in PNG.
The itinerary and a map of the walk are both available on request. This trek will fly into Doribosoro in Central Province and walk through to Itokama in Oro Province and fly back.
Email us for the cost of the walk. This cost will include the charter from Port Moresby to Dorobisoro and the charter Itokama back to Port Moresby. Also includes all meals, porters and guides and their meals, lodge accommodation along the way, tents and camping equipment where necessary. Each person will be provided with a personal porter to carry their pack which will not exceed 18Kgs in total weight. Walkers will be expected to provide their own mattress and sleeping bag.
Overseas walkers must provide for their fares into the country and a night's accommodation in Port Moresby each end of the walk. To express interest and find out more about this walk please contact: Mike Martin, PO Box 440, Konedobu. Ph +675 7169 1840 or use the contact page to email.
